Blaise M. Sonnier, J.D., D.B.A. was a partner in our Lafayette office until July 2007, when he joined the faculty of Florida International University, Miami, Florida.  He is now Of Counsel with Allen & Gooch providing consultations and legal services in the areas of taxation, estate planning, successions and estates, commercial transactions, and corporate law.

At Florida International University, Blaise has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in corporate and partnership taxation, individual income tax, tax planning, and mergers and acquisitions.  He has published articles in the fields of taxation, intellectual capital disclosure, and oil and gas accounting.  Blaise has authored articles that have been published in the Journal of Taxation, Taxes – The Taxes Magazine, Journal of State Taxation, Loyola Law Review, Journal of Corporate Accounting and Finance, Journal of Accounting and Organizational Change, Journal of Business Strategy, Journal of Intellectual Capital, and Journal of Applied Management & Entrepreneurship.  He has also presented papers at conferences of the American Taxation Association and the American Accounting Association.

Blaise is a member of the LSU chapter of the Order of the Coif.  After graduating from LSU Law School, he served as a law clerk at the Louisiana Supreme Court for Justices Fred Blanche and Luther Cole.

In 2007, Blaise was awarded a Doctorate of Business Administration at Grenoble Ecole de Management, Grenoble, France.  His dissertation explored the disclosure practices of high technology companies of their intellectual capital in their annual reports.

Dr. Sonnier is licensed to practice law in the State of Louisiana and is a licensed Certified Public Accountant in the States of Florida and Louisiana.
