New Medical Reimbursement Schedule

Yesterday evening, the head of our Worker’s Compensation Section, Michael Parker, received an invitation from Sheral Kellar, Assistant Secretary at the Office of Workers’ Compensation, to be part of the team working on the Louisiana Workforce Commission’s (LWC) plan to overhaul its medical fee reimbursement schedule. Congratulations to Michael on this prestigious invitation and recognition of his distinguished service to the firm and to the Louisiana Workforce Commission.

On February 18, 2020, the agency entered into a contract with FairHealth, Inc. where FairHealth will assist LWC in the development and implementation of an updated workers’ compensation fee schedule to be made available to LWC electronically through a web-based solution maintained and operated by FairHealth.  The agency also exercised an option to purchase licenses for its stakeholder subscribers.

The LWC anticipates the process will take three years. The first year, they plan to overhaul Facility guidelines and rates; the second year, professional guidelines, rates, and fee schedule features; and finally, the third year, HCPCS and other service guidelines and rates.

Following the overhaul, FairHealth will maintain and update the technology required for this web-based solution.

On Tuesday, March 3, 2020 from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., a meeting will be held in which input from attendees will be requested. Given the rarity of this opportunity, a representative from our firm will be present and ready to present suggestions that, if accepted, will yield positive results from the overhaul.
