On January 16, 2013 Allen & Gooch sponsored a Tax Credit Symposium in conjunction with LEDA, the Opportunity Machine, and the Online Incentives Exchange at the LITE Center in Lafayette, Louisiana. The symposium featured a broad spectrum of professionals in the tax credit market and covered topics such as the value of tax credits to the state economy, how tax credits impact market diversification, the most effective ways to access tax credit opportunities, the legal and accounting perspectives on tax incentives, local and regional case studies on business that have benefited from tax credits, and best practices for getting the most out of tax credits. “Tax credits offer a unique way for businesses to generate capital without sacrificing equity,” said Clay Allen, managing partner, Allen & Gooch. “Whether you are a start-up firm trying to get your product off the ground, an established local business looking to expand, or an out-of-state company considering a relocation, Louisiana tax credits are a powerful economic tool to help reach your goals.”
Speakers included Mike Olivier, the former secretary of Louisiana Economic Development and the CEO of the Louisiana Committee of 100 for Economic Development; Ron Bienvenu, CEO of the Louisiana Buyout Fund; Sherri McConnell, Former Executive Director of the Office of Entertainment Industry Development and Principal of McConnell & Associates Consulting; John Munsell, CEO and Co-Founder of Bizzuka, Inc.; Heath Williams, Director of the Digital Media and Software Incentive Program for Louisiana Entertainment; Danny Bigel, CEO and Co-Founder of the Online Incentives Exchange; Richard Matheny, Partner, Phelps Dunbar LLP; and Micah Stewart, Vice-President of Tax Services at Laporte. The event was a huge success, with over 150 attendees from the business community, including accountants, financial planners, realtors, attorneys, analysts, executives, and business leaders.
